Northeast of Golden and north
of Wheat Ridge is one of the larger cities of Denver's west side, Arvada. Looking north from the top of the ridge that is the center of Wheat
Ridge, you can see the historic center of Arvada, now known as Olde Town Arvada. But
Arvada has spread considerably from that historic beginning, out to the "horse
country" of the far west side. Arvada's central area consists largely of homes
typically built in the 1950s and 1960s. But a rapidly growing high-end development called
West Woods Ranch offers new homes centered around a golf course. Arvada is known for its
family-oriented lifestyle and its easy access to Boulder and Denver.
The Arvada Technical Center,
along with 30 to 50 smaller firms, supports the existing industrial base. Still a little
bit country, Arvada offers diversified housing ranging from apartments and small homes to
farms and country estates.Housing choices in Arvada are as diverse as the area itself.
Affordable homes can be found near many of the open spaces preserved by the community for
it's residents. Arvada has done an excellent job of balancing both business and cultural
growth by redeveloping its downtown area, providing adequate and convenient shopping for
its residents and by building a beautiful Center for the Performing Arts which preserves
the flavor of the Old West.
Major employers in Arvada are COBE
Cardiovascular, Mark VII Equipment, Inc., Denver Instrument Company, Sunstrand Fluid
Handling, and Tarco, Inc
