| Highlands Ranch is one of the
most successful planned communities in the nation. The master plan for the community was
approved in 1979 which included 13,000 acres approved for open space, parks, trails, and
community facilities. Convenience is one of the trademark features of Highlands
Ranch. Recreation, shopping, and dining are within 5 minutes to most residences. Two
recreation centers offer pools, gyms, meeting rooms, and tennis courts. Park Meadows Mall,
with four large department stores and over 100 specialty stores, is an exciting place to
shop and dine. Restaurants abound within the community from ethnic to home style. In addition to convenience, Highlands ranch has been
designed as a full service community. Two private schools, 13 elementary, 2 middle, and
two high schools serve the community with additional schools still in the planning phase.
Health care is also within arms reach including medical offices, specialty facilities, and
hospitals. The community also features many groups, organizations, and churches. Services
abound in Highlands Ranch and becoming a part of the community is as easy as a phone call.
Highlands Ranch also offers various
communities within the community. Homes from the 100,000's and above to custom homes are
available. Whether your preference is traditional or contemporary you can find a home that
suits your needs.
Highlands Ranch is the Douglas County
community best known by Denverites, partly because it now represents a continuum of the
Greater Denver urban fabric. It lies on the northern edge of Douglas County directly south
from the City and County of Denver. With 25,000 residents and growing like crazy, it's
supposed to top out at a population of 90,000 by the year 2020, and it won't be too
surprising if at some point it is incorporated as a city. It's already starting to look
like one with its well-established schools and community centers; its huge central green
space, the Northwest Community Park that branches through the main, western cluster of the
community; and the large Highland Heritage Regional Park on the growing eastern cluster.
